We've Got Heart! HIA 2017 Recap

It’s August 18, which means summer is officially wrapping up. With the end of summer near, it's hard to believe that today marks the last official day of Hearts in Action Summer Camp! Don’t worry- our Year-Round Programming registration is open. There are a number of options including weekend respite, out-of-school care, Social Nights, and more! Find out more by clicking here. Don't forget - if you are still looking for respite next week, August Respite is happening and we would love to see you!

AdaptAbilities staff and volunteers have gone above and beyond to put our Core Values into action everyday, and make the world a more inclusive place - one person at a time. We have had an absolute blast with our campers this summer – making it the best summer ever! Check out some photos below to see what we've been up to!

HIA is unique is so many ways and each day we are lucky to get to do what we love! HIA provides parents and families the breaks they need, while having peace of mind that their child is experiencing a summer they will never forget!

This summer, campers participated in activities all over the beautiful city of Edmonton. While being active members in the community, we were also able to support local businesses in the process. This summer our participants have had unique opportunities that they might not have otherwise had. From personal training sessions with L2 Fitness to food tasting at Taste of Edmonton to frequent trips to Telus World of Science, there was never a dull moment for our campers!

Over the course of HIA, our participants grew emotionally, physically and mentally. Lifelong friendships were made not only with staff, but also among participants. Seeing our campers leave with a smile on their face at the end of the day made us smile bigger, and our families smile the biggest! This is why we love what we do!

Here are a few of our favourite messages from families and staff:

“Hearts in Action has changed my daughter’s personality.”

"I really feel like I need to tell you how impressed I was seeing your staff interacting with your campers today at the Queen Elizabeth Pool. I hadn't heard of your organization until seeing the shirt of the 'lead' at the pool. I applaud your difference making. The hearts of your staff are truly worn on their sleeves." - Sarah

" I just wanted to let you know: my hubby and I had the pleasure of sitting next to some of your staff and their clients this afternoon on the LRT in Edmonton...what a remarkable group of young people you have in these staff members! Pleasant, caring, kind! ." – Jen

"My favorite part of our program is the community outings that we provide for our participants. Specifically, my favorite community outings this summer were our visits to the local fire station, spray parks, recreation centers, K-Days and even laser tag! These experiences were not only fun but also provided opportunities for the people who hire us to build capacity and gain life skills."

So thank you! Thank you to our campers. Thank you to our families. Thank you to our staff. This summer was incredible and we can’t wait to see you back at camp next year! We hope to see you throughout the year with our regular programming and best of luck in the fall!
