The holiday season is a busy time of year for most families. Between the holiday shopping, the dinners, the parties; this time of year is truly magical - and overwhelming! Something that often slips during the hustle and bustle of the holidays is the importance of self-care.
Parents of children with special needs have an extra layer of stress and worry that comes from the holidays. Perhaps your child has sensory processing challenges and can’t be exposed to all of the bright lights at West Edmonton Mall. How do you find time to get your shopping done? You want your child to be included in the holiday hustle – but this adds an extra layer of stress. Maybe you have tried to enroll your child in an extracurricular activity, but their needs cannot be met with standard programming. How do you find time to get them something special for Christmas when they can’t get dropped off at a sports practice or friends house?
We understand - this time of year can be especially stressful for families. At AdaptAbilities, our respite programs offer the chance to pause and take a break - to head to the mall and Christmas shop, catch up with a friend over coffee, or head out on a much-needed date-night.
We are thrilled to host our 4th Annual Respite ‘n Rejuvenate event on Wednesday, November 22. This evening is about building capacity within the family through providing time for essential self-care – massages, manicures, a life coach session, and of course, great food, drinks, and company! This event is open to caregivers and parents of individuals with special needs to relax and enjoy an evening of pampering – on us!
Respite care is provided (parental cost shares are waived for the evening) to ensure you have peace of mind knowing that your child is having a great time with friends. Please indicate if you are interested when registering for the event.
