Michelle's (Mid) Summer Message

Michelle's (Mid) Summer 2014 Message.

Hello, my name is Michelle Hordal, and I am the founder and Executive Director of AdaptAbilities, a registered Edmonton charity that provides one-of-a-kind programs and services that focus on empowering individuals with special needs to grow, succeed and belong.

This is our 10th anniversary year and we are excited to share with you an exciting summer packed full of fun.  Our Hearts In Action summer camps provide a great camp experience with a variety of field trips to destinations like Telus World of Science and Monday Morning Magic along with weekly swimming trips and special interest activities like Slip ‘n’ slide, bouncy castle and even a Magic Show. Hearts In Action campers are sure to develop friendships, explore interests and most importantly have fun.

At AdaptAbilities we believe that all children should have a memorable summer in a camp where they belong and our trained Relief Care and Community Specialists' support participants to do just that.

We are also excited to announce a new initiative called the Inclusive Summer Camp Pilot Project where we have formed partnerships with the YMCA, City of Edmonton, and the University of Alberta.  Together we are offering an opportunity for kids to be supported in a community camp of their choice in an inclusive setting.  Together we will have a collective impact on supporting inclusion one person at a time which I think is a great start to building inclusive communities for everyone.

As this is our 10th year of operation, this fall with be a milestone for AdaptAbilities as we celebrate a decade of success.  The celebrations will also coincide with the Grand Opening of our New Respite Centre in the McKernan Community Hall where we are proud to provide a wonderful community resource for families.

Finally, we recently upgraded our website and we encourage you have a look around. The site was designed to help us us better connect with you and share programming information. You can also follow us on Twitter, and Facebook, and stay up to date on our new blog and event pages.

On behalf of Adaptabilities I wish you and your family the best of this warm, wonderful season. I hope to see you over the summer.
